AWS Announces CDK Orchestration for SageMaker AI Auto Scaling
According to AWS. AWS introduces a new CDK construct to automate the deregistration and registration of auto scaling targets during SageMaker AI endpoint updates.
- • Automates the deregistration of scalable targets to prevent deployment failures.
- • Uses custom CloudFormation resources to manage complex dependency ordering.
- • Ensures auto scaling policies are correctly re-applied after endpoint configuration changes.
Addressing Deployment Failures
AWS reports that updating SageMaker AI endpoints with active auto scaling via CloudFormation or CDK often results in failures because the service requires targets to be deregistered first. The new CDK construct orchestrates this process by automatically removing the scalable target before the update and re-registering it once the endpoint reaches an InService status.
Technical Implementation
The solution replaces native CloudFormation resources with three custom resources that enforce explicit dependency ordering. By utilizing the CDK provider’s asynchronous completion pattern, the construct manages the lifecycle of the endpoint update, including wait times for readiness checks, without requiring manual intervention from the user.
